Naga journalist among 12 conferred USTM media award

University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (US&TM) on Thursday honoured media persons from the North East region, including Nagaland Post journalist Tinakali Sumi, in recognition of their contribution to the field of News Media giving legitimacy to people’s voice and augmenting the role of media as the “Fourth Estate”. 
The awards were given away by former Meghalaya Governor, R S Mooshahary in the presence Prof Nirmal Kumar Chaudhury, former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University to 12 media persons under the category of USTM Media Excellence Award 2018 and USTM media achiever award-2018. 
The USTM Media Achiever Award-2018 went to eight senior journalists from the region-- Sujit Chakraborty, Spl. Correspondent, IANS, Tripura; Satyanarayan Misra, Staff Reporter, Dainik Purvoday; Imtiaz Ahmed, Sr. Reporter, The Telegraph, Guwahati; Monmoromi Mahanta, journalist, Prag Channel; Mridul Haloi, Sub Editor, Dainik Janambhumi; Aafaque Hussain, Staff Reporter, The Shillong Times; Tinakali Sumi, Sr Sub Editor, Nagaland Post and Evanjoplin Dkhar, Sr. Reporter, Meghalaya Guardian, Shillong. 
Addressing the gathering, former Meghalaya Governor, RS Mooshahary maintained that the media had its social responsibilities and it could play a positive or negative role in society. He urged all media persons to contribute positively to the society and the country as a whole.
USTM chancellor, Mahbubul Hoque stated that it had been a challenging journey for USTM which began with only six students in 2011 and now the University takes pride to have more than 5,000 students. The University has adopted a holistic approach for social development, besides its consistent mission towards development of individuals and the society in the field of education. 
It may be mentioned that the awards were conferred on the occasion of USTM PR Day-2018.
