Nagaland on Sunday reported 19 fresh COVID-19 cases-- 16 in Dimapur, 2 in Mokokchung and 1 in Kohima, taking the tally to 5083 cases.

Out of 5083 positive cases, the distribution across various categories of people include 2386 cases from the armed forces/police, 1404 returnees, 317 frontline workers and 976 traced contacts.

Meanwhile, the Health department Sunday issued a ‘public advisory’ informing that there had been a surge in cases across the state. After the positivity rate had fallen to 4% during August 22 to 29, there was an increase of 6% during August 31 to September 4, which further went up to 11% during September 5 to 11.

It said that majority of positive cases were among males (83%) in the age group of 30-44 years (45%) and 15-29 years (37%).

Apart from armed forces, the department said that the recent surge was increasingly seen among the younger age group.

The department further said that discipline among young and mobile groups of people in following safety measures was important as they were less likely to have symptoms and can spread to high risk individuals like the elderly people above 65 years and those with chronic diseases and also people with weak immune system.

Meanwhile, the Health department appealed all to follow the 3 Ws-- Wear mask, Wash hands, Watch distance and to avoid 3Cs-- Crowded places, Close contact setting and Closed and enclosed spaces.
