Nagaland on Wednesday reported 34 fresh COVID-19 positive cases-- 31 in Dimapur, 2 in Mon and 1 in Kohima, taking the tally to 5263.

According to Health department, 17 cases (total tally 2481) were reported from among the armed forces/security personnel, 3 returnees/travellers (tally 1418) and 14 traced contacts (1044).

As on September 16, there were 1261 active cases, 3968 recovered, 15 deaths (5 not Covid related and one under investigation) and 19 migrated. 

As per the severity of symptoms, 1252 active cases were asymptomatic, 7 mild and 2 moderate cases.

India’s virus tally crosses 51 lakh

PTI: India’s tally of COVID-19 cases surged past 51 lakh, the number of recoveries improved to more than 40 lakh, while the death toll crossed the 83,000 mark on Wednesday, as per the data provided by various governments.

In its most recent update, the union health ministry placed the total number of cases at 50,20,359 and the death toll at 82,066. The ministry said that  39,42,360 people have so far recovered from the infection. 

India’s COVID-19 cases jumped from 10 lakh to 20 lakh in 21 days. Then it took 16 more days to race past 30 lakh, 13 days more to cross the 40-lakh mark and 11 days to go past 50 lakh.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate due to the coronavirus infection further dropped at 1.63 per cent.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 5,94,29,115 samples have been tested up to September 15 with 11,16,842 samples being tested on Tuesday.

The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its  website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
