10-men Nagaland football team suffered a heavy defeat against Meghalaya ( 6-1) in their second match of the Santosh Trophy 2019-20 North East qualifying round at Umankanta Mini stadium, Agartala on Wednesday.

Meghalaya team managed to score two goals in the first 10 minutes, and a send off for Nagaland goalkeeper in the 28th minute hampered the team as the Meghalaya team slotted four more goals in the match. Ringham Jigdun was the only goalscorer for the Nagaland team who scored in the second half.

According to Nagaland team manager Kevilebei Zashümo, the red card was controversial as the foul by the keeper was without the ball outside the area. Despite the defeat, he was optimistic that the players will gain more confidence and experience in upcoming tournaments.

One of the players lamented the lack of the creativity in the midfield area and lack of experience in the national tournament which has hampered the match.

With only top teams from each group qualifying for the finals, Manipur will play against Meghalaya on September 27 to decide the winner of the group B.

Up next, Nagaland will be hosting the Dr T Ao Northeast football Tournament likely by this year and drama for CSR will continue if the state players don't register themselves before the tournament begins.
