Nagaland gets ready for NE Dr. T Ao Trophy

Hectic preparations are going on at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima as the state prepares to host the upcoming North East Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2020 from January 18. Er. Zale Neikha, advisor, Youth Resources & Sports on Monday inspected the ongoing development work at the IG Staidum Kohima for the upcoming tournament. During his visit, the advisor expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing work and further requested the departmental officials to provide the stadium with all necessary fitting and equipment and complete the work on time.

The committee for the tournament is being headed by Chief Secretary of Nagaland to plan and work out the modalities for the success of the tournament. 

The Advisor also had a brief interaction with the Nagaland team who have already set up by their camp at IG Stadium and are undergoing intensive training. In his short interaction, the advisor requested the players to be disciplined on and off the field and play with team spirit.

While expressing high hopes of winning the coveted trophy, the advisor said all eyes will be on the host team as they vie for the prestigious trophy and also wished the team a grand success.  The North East Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2020 is a premier football tournament for the eight north-eastern states. The football tournament is slated to be held from January 18 to 28 and will be played on astro turf ground at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. 

The participating teams are Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. 

The host team is led by Roko Angami as the team coach and Colo Mero as the team manager.

The fixture for the tournament has been announced and the top two teams from Group A and B will then qualify for the semi-final round. Each team will play a total of three matches to secure the semi-final berth. The final will be played on January 28, the birth anniversary of Dr. T. Ao.

Nagaland are clubbed with Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura in Group A, while Sikkim, Assam, Mizoram and Meghalaya are in Group-B. 

Nagaland will play their first match against Arunachal Pradesh, while in Group B, Manipur will take on Tripura on January 20.
