Nagaland girls to participate in Gothai Cup, Sweden

Nagaland under-15 girls football team under the banner “Sports Club Nagaland” will be participating in the international tournament ‘Gothai Cup’, the world’s largest International Youth Football Tournament from July 14 July to 20 at Gothenburg, Sweden. 

This was disclosed by advisor, Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), Zale Neikha at the press briefing held at IG Stadium, here on Wednesday. 

In this regard, Soccer Competition, Germany in collaboration with the department of YRS is conducting a football coaching to select the team for the tournament.

According to Neikha, the department of YRS has taken the initiative to send a team to the international tournament to help the players gain exposure and also as part of the year long centenary celebration of Dr. T. Ao.

He added that YRS with a joint effort of Mike Mirucki, CEO Soccer Competition Germany has also invited Sebastian Rasmussen, a FIFA grade A coach to prepare and select the team to participate in the tournament.

It may be noted that Soccer Competition is a scouting and agent company specialize in scouting young talent and international sports management in collaboration with PBF India.

Mike Mirucki said the cup is the world’s largest international youth football tournament where around 1700 teams from 80 nations take part and play 4500 games on 110 fields.

He said that the state preparatory training camp started in March and will continue till first week of July.

As of now, 16 girls have been selected and more players will be selected for the tournament. In this regard, YRS has invited interested footballers (girls) to make themselves available at I.G. Stadium from 3: 30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for practice session during the working days, where deserving candidate will be selected.

In 2016, Lanvungthung Khuvung was selected by the Real Sports Association to play as striker at Gothia Cup in Sweden.

Meanwhile, talking to media persons, Sebastian Rassmusen, who is specialise in working with under-18 athletes said that the girls were doing good but lacked in positioning during the game play. Rassmusen also said the girls have all the potentials and talent but lamented on the absence of league and platform in the state.
