Nagaland hotspot for Shiitake mushroom

CEO of ALON MPCS limited, founder and director of Longer Agritech Pvt. Ltd, Dr Sosang Longkumer has been researching and cultivating variety of mushrooms to uplift Northeast economy by utilising available resources.

According to DIPR report, Dr Sosang aims to assist mushroom farmers and has set up a spawn production laboratory at Kashiram Dimapur by availing loan from Bank of Baroda under PMEGP programme.

The fully functional lab is equipped with culture room, sterilization room, an incubator where fungus culture is being maintained and several other state of the art scientific machines where Dr Sosang works.

He imparts training to mushroom farmers and agriculture students. The scientist also explained in detail on how to cultivate mushrooms and on the business front, he has a buy back policy where he assures farmers to buy back the cultivated mushrooms if they are unable to sell in the market.

Dr. Sosang has been concentrating on cultivation and production of exotic Shiitake (Japanese mushroom) because of its high demand in the markets. 

He observed that Nagaland could be a hot spot for Shiitake mushrooms cultivation due to availability of forest resources and feasible climatic conditions.

He further informed that few Naga farmers who started Shiitake cultivation under his guidance in 2018 in a small scale proved to be very fruitful and showed encouraging results.
