Nagaland snatch draw in Gothai Cup

Sports Club Nagaland (under-15) snatched a late 2-2 equalizer against Åhus IF in the last league match of the International Youth Tournament “Gothai Cup” at Gothenburg, Sweden on Wednesday. 

Abeno Humtsoe and Imlimerenla were the goal scorers for Nagaland during the encounter. 

Despite losing 14-0 against one of the top football club in Europe IF Brommapojkarna in the second league match on Tuesday. The team made a comeback in their last league match to settle for a draw.

After humiliating defeat, there was a much relieve with tears of emotions and satisfaction for the girls at the end of the match. 

They will play Halvikens SK 1 in Round-32 on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. IST. 

State football coach Ruopfüo Meyase told this Correspondent over the phone that the top two teams will qualify for Group A play off, while the bottom two teams in Group B will play knock out. 

On the experience, he said that it was a good platform for all the players and hoped the state also adopt some of their system. 

Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha said the team were displaying a great performance despite loses. He said that the girls have never played in a league before and said that they have faced teams that are ranked in the world top 10. 

He further said that girls needed experience which can be achieved with greater participation in leagues and longer professional training.

“With their limited experience some of our girls have already been spotted for future endeavors viz, Imlimerenla, Neke Konyak and Medokhono”, he said. 

On experience in international level, the advisor said that the level of football in Sweden was undoubtedly top level and added that they have visited a few clubs in Sweden including one of the top European Club FC Rosengard.
