National girl child week observed across Nagaland

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) national girl child week was observed on January 20 in Nagaland along with the rest of the nation. 

Phek: Special campaign of a week-long Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) commenced at Phek town under the aegis of district administration and district level centre for women Mahila Shakti Kendra Phek on Monday.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Phek deputy commissioner Sachin Jaiswal apprised the gathering about the importance of continued awareness concerning girl child, given that some unwanted elements against girl child are still prevalent. He invited all the stakeholders to actively take part in the week long campaign and participate in the upcoming events.

Opening ceremony was chaired by N. Bhavani Sri, SDO (C), Phek. Rally from church junction to DC Office Complex was conducted with signature campaign. Programme was attended by Phek Area Mother’s Association,  Phek Town Women Welfare Society, Phek Town Youth Society, Phek Town Chakhesang Students Union, pastors from various churches, youth department, Sunday School department and representatives from various departments & front line workers (DLSA, Phek , DRDA,Phek). Mokokchung: District administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) Mokokchung district kick started the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) week by taking BBBP oath and signature ceremony at the DC’s chamber led by DC Limawabang Jamir on January 20. 

A press release from DLCW-MSK women welfare officer, Moamenla stated that, a series of events to be undertaken for the following days as part of BBBP week are: Day 2, January 21 distribution of IEC materials and BBBP badge; Day 3 January 22 door to door campaign with the aganwadi workers and paste  BBBP stickers; Day 4 January 23 distribution of pamphlet at Wednesday Women Bazaar and drawing competition at an orphanage; Day 5 January 24 broadcasting of BBBP theme song at the local channel and radio station, alongside there will be a tree plantation drive in the name of the girl child in Mokokchung town and all sub-divisions in Mokokchung district; Day 6 January 25 distribution of Bookipedia library membership card to 500 girl child students and put up flex in hospitals and schools and Day 7 January 26 felicitation of ambassador for girl child and local champions.

Tuensang: The week-long celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) week in Tuensang district started with a walkathon flagged off on January 20 by Shelley Katiry, SDO (C) Tuensang. A press release from DC office Tuensang stated that, the walkathon started from Clock Town junction and culminated at Main Bazaar junction. Later in the morning, the participants also conducted social work in the main town area. Earlier, the significance of the BBBP week was highlighted by Chulongla, centre administrator, Sakhi-One-Stop centre, Tuensang. Around 80 adolescent girls took part in the event.
