National Lok Adalat was conducted in nine district headquarters, which constituted nine Lok Adalat Benches, on September 8.

A press release from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) nodal officer for National Lok Adalat, Nungsangchiba Jamir stated that in total, 194 cases were listed before the Lok Adalat bench for settlement where today’s Lok Adalat was able to settle and dispose of 122 cases. Rs. 1,05,09,903 was the total settlement amount involved in the disposed and settled cases. This settlement amount included fine money, bank recovery money and compensation.

Today’s referred cases that were taken up for settlement were mostly on Bank Recovery and Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases. The Lok Adalat sittings were observed within the premises of the District Court Buildings.

Nagaland State Legal Services Authority has also been coordinating with and sending communications to the banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, departments in the public utility sector, other parties and litigants to appear before the National Lok Adalat for amicable settlement of disputes and cases.

During the proceedings, the district judges, chief judicial magistrates and civil judges, acting as presiding officers, showed vigorous efforts towards the success of the Lok Adalat and the panel lawyers served as conciliators along with the Para legal Volunteers who acted as members.

The next National Lok Adalat has been scheduled for December 8 and interested citizens have been asked to contact the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, approach the District Legal Services Authority (which is attached to the district court building in every district) or the concerned court for referring case to the National Lok Adalat.
