National seminar on gender equality at FAC

National seminar to address issues on gender and their realization in real time and space was organised by English department of Fazl Ali College (FAC) on March 12 at the college conference hall.

A press release by the college stated that, keynote speaker, former head of department (English) FAC, Dr. Watimongla Pongener, spoke on the challenges that gender attitudes pose in all societies. She remarked, “Gender is everywhere whereas equality is not”. 

At the seminar, 25 papers were presented from researchers around the country. Some presented critiques of auxiliary powers, ethical equity, representation of women, issues of identity and transcending stereotypes from their readings of select novels, some presenters from Nagaland focused on Naga women in church administration and traditional political institutions as well as impediments in empowering women. 

Papers were also presented on semiotic analysis and cultural grammar of gender relations and representations. 

Renthungo Odyuo of B.A 6th semester read out a poem titled “How Long?” dedicated to all the ladies in the house. 

The moderators of the three technical sessions were associate professor, FAC (Philosophy), Tiarenla, assistant professor (Political Science) Zunheboto Government College, Lipokrenla and assistant professor (Philosophy) FAC, KevezaiTureng. 

The rapporteurs were assistant professor (Philosophy), Dr. Bendanginla,  assistant professor (Economics, Dr. L. Imlinichet Imchen and assistant professor (Functional English), Dr. ZiuziuIheilung.

 The valedictory programme was chaired by assistant professor (Education), Dr. Temjennaro and the seminar was rounded off with participant’s feedback by research scholar (Political Science) N.U, Lumami, Moameren Pongen and vote of thanks by secretary, organising committee and assistant professor, (English), Bendangsenla.
