NBCC cautions on heretical group

Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has cautioned all the pastors of Baptist Churches in Dimapur about a Korean sect reportedly luring Christian youths especially in the metros.

In a letter to the pastors, NBCC general secretary Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho said Shincheonji, sometimes spelled “Shinchonji” or abbreviated as SCJ, was a pseudo-Christian religion primarily practiced in South Korea.

NBCC said that the religion’s official name was “Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony”, created by a man called Man-Hee Lee in the 1980s. It said the word “Shincheonji” itself is a combination of the Korean terms for “new,” “heaven,” and “earth.”

NBCC said the group has been criticized for shallow, academically weak teachings, taking an extremely figurative view of biblical texts, a cult-like atmosphere, and its members’ involvement in various social, civil, and legal troubles.  NBCC has, therefore, called upon all the associations and churches to be wary of the group.
