Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Friday observed its 2nd foundation day by holding a thanksgiving programme at “Nousi” Auditorium, Niathu Resort Chumukedima. In a press release, NDPP media & communication committee stated that the programme was attended by party president Chingwang Konyak and the rank and file of the NDPP along with its legislators. A host of party leaders addressed the gathering, it stated.

In his introductory remark, NDPP working president Alemtemshi Jamir highlighted how the party came into existence. He said that the word “Democratic”, which is part of NDPP, was most appropriate since a democracy has its roots in Christian beliefs, adding that democratic system of governance had evolved out of reformation movement of Martin Luther King in the 1500s. In his presidential address, party president Chingwang Konyak acknowledged the rank and file of the NDPP and appreciated the dedicated loyalty and service of all party functionaries for making it possible for the party to grow from strength to strength in the last two years.
He mentioned that despite all opposition, God had always led and blessed the party enabling the NDPP to form the government after the general elections of 2018 and with victory in the by-elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state.
Having had to face another by-election to 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency as well as 2019 general election of the country, Konyak said the party also had to face an uphill task as the opposition decided to combine forces against the NDPP. However, he exuded confidence that NDPP candidates will emerge victorious owing to the dedicated efforts of party rank and file who tirelessly worked throughout the campaign period.
Delivering a short speech, NDPP youth organisation president Kelhouneizo Yhome appreciated the efforts and sacrifices of the party leadership and the chief minister in making it possible for establishing the NDPP. He expressed the belief of the youth that NDPP and its leadership would lead Nagaland to greater heights.
Among the many NDPP legislators, who attended the programme, Advisor KT Sukhalu addressed the gathering on behalf of all the Legislators. In his speech, Sukhalu appreciated the vision of the founding members of NDPP for having come up with the concept of establishing a regional party in the state based on the sentiments and desire of the people.
Reminding of the party slogan “Change”, he said people were slowly realising that NDPP-led PDA government was for change.
He maintained that change should also not only pertain to policies and development, but also need change in mindset and way of living for that change to become wholesome. Advisor also emphasised on the importance of tolerance and to have an accommodative spirit.
In his address, NDPP secretary general, Abu Metha, highlighted the achievements of NDPP-led PDA government.
Metha explained that NDPP was regional in character but national in outlook having reached national level politics in a span of just two years by being a partner in the NEDA and being a part of the national alliance the NDA.
He mentioned the recognition and importance chief minister Neiphiu Rio was receiving today being one of the senior most chief ministers in the country.
While appreciating the party rank and file, the secretary general specially appreciated the services of those party functionaries at the grassroots without whose cooperation and support the NDPP would not have survived. He also mentioned that NDPP being a democratic party also follows the open-door policy, saying anyone wanting to join its fold was welcome to join.
The programme was chaired by NDPP women organisation president Visevonuo Bebi and prayer of blessing was given by Yimchunger Baptist Church Dimapur (YBCD) Pastor Athsan Yimchunger.
The programme ended with the party treasurer giving the concluding remark.
