NDPP ridicules NPF claim on NSSB

DIMAPUR, AUG 5 (NPN) | Publish Date: 8/5/2020 12:42:22 PM IST

The war of words between NDPP and NPF is showing no sign of ceasing.

After the opposition party claimed that the process for setting up Nagaland State Selection Board (NSSB) was set into motion when it had led the DAN III government with TR Zeliang as chief minister, the ruling party ridiculed the claim and termed it absurd.

A statement by NDPP alleged that the NPF-led DAN III government had only paid lip service and did nothing in this regard for the welfare of the qualified and deserving youth of the State.

It added that the setting up of NSSB by the PDA government was a fulfilment of long-cherished dreams and aspirations of the people, especially the youth.

The ruling party further denied allegation that its leaders had orchestrated chaos and instability in the past and instead accused NPF of forgetting how to play the role of a constructive and responsible opposition.

NDPP also ridiculed NPF’s claims of being the main opposition party and oldest regional party as the latter failed to even put up its own candidate in the Lok Sabha election and contradicted all its principles and regional ideology by partnering and supporting a candidate from the Congress, which does not have even a single MLA in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA).

Accusing NPF of deriving sadistic pleasure by pointing out that there was no opposition during its reign, the ruling party alleged that the situation was arrived at by engineering defections to ensure the party’s “unholy loot” of the State’s coffers.

The statement said NPF also brought shame and infamy to NLA when crucial Assembly sessions were conducted and concluded in a matter of few minutes, thereby making the then ruling dispensation a laughing stock both within the State and outside.

Rejecting the opposition party’s demand to resign, NDPP asserted that constitutionally-installed governments the world over did not function or cease to function at the whims and fancies of a few who wish to take over the helms of affairs so that they could perpetuate their looting and plundering spree.

“Perhaps the opposition feels that the present PDA government is like the DAN-III government wherein NPF took it upon itself to overthrow its own government and chief minister on its whims and fancies, not once but twice!” the statement added.

The ruling party advised NPF to first look at its past before pointing its fingers at others.

NDPP said the opposition party had fallen into the habit of pointing fingers at others for all its failures.

Be it the chaos in running the affairs of the State under two chief ministers, the public fiasco over the urban local body elections, few minutes of Assembly sessions, lack of any semblance of development, perpetual instability, etc, NPF should realise that these were all its failures and it cannot blame others for its incapability, the statement pointed out.
