World Day against Child Labour (WDCL) was commemorated by NDWM-Child Right Movement Nagaland region in collaboration with Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) on June 22 at Assisi auditorium.

A press release from ACID stated that, coordinator of NDWM–Nagaland region Sr. Pramila Lobo highlighted on the theme “Protect children from child labour, now more than ever”.  She said that due to COVID-19 the resulting economic and labours have a huge impact on the lives of the people and the livelihood, where children suffer most. She pointed out that the crisis can push more children into child labour, where children have to quit school and continue to work either in the garage or as domestic workers.

Resource person Sr. Mary Dukru, the NDWM-CRM member along with Sr. Felicita, superior of Assisi community enlightened the participants on both the advantages and disadvantages of mobile phone used for online classes since the lockdown. Sr. Mary cautioned the children that use of mobile was for the purpose of studying and communication.

Toka enlightened the children on the Corona pandemic and also on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. 53 children attended the programme and held up placards which read “Child labour isn’t fair, they need love and care”, “Child is meant to learn, not to earn.” Earlier, invocation was given by Amakla and welcome address by Sr. Geetalakra.
