NE budget allocation hiked by 21 per cent

Centre has proposed Rs 58,166 crore budget allocations to the North Eastern region, with an increase of 21 per cent.

While presenting the Interim Budget 2019-20, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said that people of the region have significantly benefitted from infrastructure development.

A total of Rs 580 crore has been allocated for the North Eastern Council schemes, Rs 931 crore for Central Pool of Resources for North East and Sikkim, Rs 674 crore for other subsidy payable including for North Eastern Region and Rs 1700 for refund of central and Integrated GST to Industrial units in North East and Himalayan States.

During his speech, Goyal also credited the government for bringing Arunachal Pradesh on the air map, and Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram for the first time were connected with the rail link. He also informed that the government would be introducing container cargo movement to the region.
