It may be mentioned the issue was pointed out by chief minister, Neiphiu Rio during the 69th Plenary of the NEC through video conference in January last. He expressed dismay that Dr. T. Ao Regional Football Academy project, which was approved at the cost of Rs. 1308 lakh by NEC during 2017-18, was closed on “as is where is basis”.
Rio had also pointed out that the foundation stone for the academy was laid in 2018 and work the work was in progress with the release of Rs. 250 lakh and corresponding state share of Rs. 27.77 lakh till the lockdown.
Rio, therefore, urged the NEC to consider reopening the Academy, asserting that once the project was completed it would cater to the need of the entire region of North East India.
