NEIGRIHMS crisis deepens; Cardio HoD open to enquiry

SHILLONG, MAY 4 (AGENCIES) | Publish Date: 5/4/2019 12:11:20 PM IST

Stressing on the need to restore normalcy and to regain the faith of the patients who visit the Cardiology department in NEIGRIHMS, Head of Department of Cardiology, Dr Animesh Mishra said that he is open to an inquiry on the allegations leveled against him pertaining to attempts to earn profit by making patients purchase stents and pacemakers from a vendor outside the hospital instead of the Amrit Pharmacy, a TNT report stated.

“I will be writing to the authorities to constitute an inquiry into the allegations leveled against me,” Dr Mishra said while taking to reporters here today.

According to him, the Department of Cardiology does not have any inventory in the institute to treat patients who need emergency treatment. “In fact, the authorities had seized the stock from the only pharmacy which is selling stents in the State.

Admitting that the shutting of the services has affected around 30 patients who need treatment for critical procedures, Head of Department of Cardiology said that there is a need to restore normalcy in the institute for the benefit of the patients.

Dr Animesh further said that the private vendor from outside the hospital sells the stents as prescribed by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) norm which had capped its rate at not more than Rs 30,000.

“Therefore, there is no single violation of price structure as recommended by the NPPA,” he said

It may be mentioned that NEIGRIHMS Public Relations Officer has revealed that he (Dr Mishra) was not cooperating with the administration to make treatment of poor cardiology patients affordable as per the regulations of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
