Neikha inaugurates Viswema Tribal Museum

Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports and chairman, DPDB Kohima district, Er. Zale Neikha on Friday inaugurated the Tribal Museum Viswema at Viswema village, Kohima district.

The museum was constructed by Vikehie Welfare Society and funded by Ministry of Culture, Government of India.  

Speaking at the programme, Viswema Village Council chairman Zhotoho Kiso said that the dresses and materials worn and used during the olden days were almost vanishing and therefore such materials will be collected and preserved at the museum.

Chairman of Vikehie Welfare Society, Eyosa Kikhi delivering the keynote address said that the proposal of the Tribal Museum started with a motive to preserve the rich culture and traditional artifacts of the village in particular and the Nagas in general. 

The Society, he said, applied for this proposal several times however it received the sanction only in December 2017 and with matching share of the society the construction could be completed.

In his address, the advisor thanked the Vikehie Welfare Society, Viswema for taking the initiative to complete the museum with the Central assistance.

This museum will also attract tourist especially during the Hornbill festival, he said.

He further said that cultures passed on from the forefathers and requested the elders to teach the youngsters about the cultural practices, folklores/dances, war dance etc. 

He also exhorted the gathering to donate artifacts to the museum in whatever possible way.

Earlier, the programme led by Notsozo Vitsu began with an invocation by pastor Viswema Baptist Church Rev. Atha Neikha and vote of thanks by Vinothul Kikhi.
