Neiphiu Rio elected as president NOA

Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio was unanimously elected as the president of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA). This was announced by the observer of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Sudanshu Mittal, who is also the vice president of IOA and president of Khokho Federation of India (KKFI) during the interaction with DIPR Dimapur at Niathu Resort on December 19 after the election.

According to DIPR report, Mittal informed that after submission of his report, the Nagaland Olympic Association would be invited to attend the meeting of the national body in New Delhi. 

Addressing the special general meeting of NOA, Mittal stated that there is vast potential for international sport persons to emerge from the North Eastern region including Nagaland. 

The IOA vice president observed that people of Nagaland have natural capabilities for becoming good sportsmen, while noting that climatic conditions of Nagaland would be conducive for sporting persons given the fact that Nagaland is situated at a higher altitude. He further opined that Nagaland being a hilly state, people have natural sporting ability and fitness.

Mittal assured the Olympic fraternity of Nagaland of the national body’s full-fledged support and hoped that new opportunities would be created for the vast pool of natural talents. He appreciated the contributions of the Nagaland Chief Minister in the field of sports and observed that since Rio is himself a keen sportsperson and sports lover, the sports fraternity would be benefitted. 

Mittal expressed optimism that given the right training and focus, sportspersons from Nagaland would not only represent India but also win medals in international competitions and assured of special focus on IOA in Nagaland. 

The Nagaland Olympic Association extended appreciation to the IOA for participating in the meeting and thanked Mittal for his personal initiatives while hoping that the national Olympic body would assist the state in developing sports. 

Nagaland Khokho Association formed

President of Khokho Federation of India (KKFI), Sudhanshu Mittal announced that the Nagaland Khokho Association has been formed in Nagaland to be headed by Victor Angami.

Speaking to DIPR, Sudanshu Mittal informed that Khokho Federation of India (KKFI) has announced a grant of Rs.6 lakh annually for the Nagaland Khokho Association to develop Khokho in Nagaland. The top two players from Nagaland will join the national camp of Khokho where selection of Indian team would be held in New Delhi from January 10, 2020. He further said that those selected would participate in the Asian Khokho Championship to be held in New Delhi from January 20 onwards. 

“The players of Nagaland will get opportunity to compete against players from rest of India and will be able to learn and pick up skills,” he maintained. He also disclosed that KKFI has invited one coach from Nagaland to be part of the National camp to acquaint with the technical skills as well as team craft of Khokho.

Sudanshu Mittal  also ensured that players from Nagaland will be given the opportunity to participate in the National Khokho League to be held shortly which would be covered live Nationwide.
