New Market FC beat Sechü Zubza to lift KTC Cup

New Market FC emerged as the champions of 2nd edition of Kohima Town Club (KTC) Cup after defeating Sechü Zubza FC 2-1 at Kohima local ground on Friday.

New Market FC received a cash prize of Rs.30,000 along with trophy, citation and certificates. The runners-up team, Sechü Zubza FC received Rs.20,000 along with trophy, citation and certificates.

In a very exciting final match, both teams displayed equal strength and enjoyed equal ball possession. However, in the 20th minute, Rhitsho Mero found the net to give New Market FC a 1-0 lead. 

After the breather, both teams created some chances, but it was New Market FC’s Salu Kulim who found the net in the 54th minute to take the score to 2-0.  

Sechü Zubza FC was able to cut the lead when Petevizo Kezieo found the net in the 76th minute. Despite the fightback, New Market FC held on to their 2-1 lead to lift the title.

Altogether, 6 players were cautioned for unsporting behaviour in the final match. The players who were shown yellow cards were Kekhrieletuo Tsira, Viketoukho Miasalhou and Khiuwangbo Kaurintah of Sechü Zubza FC and Keduvikho Mekro, Kethozhapu Meru and Rhitsho Mero of New market FC.

Major General Pradeep C Nair, YSM IGAR (N) graced the closing ceremony as special guest and gave away the awards to the winning teams.
