New village inaugurated in Peren

Lekieram- a new village born out of Peletkie village under Peren district was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by State Information Commissioner (SIC) Nagaland, GH Ramlia. 

Lekieram village was established in May 11, 2012, with the collective effort of Peletkie Village Council (PVC) and Lekie Mtei Nko (LMN), the apex bodies of Peletkie. 

It was recognised by the Government of Nagaland on October 11, 2017.

A dedicatory prayer was said by pastor Lekiram Baptist Church, Ilamleung. Speaking at the inaugural programme as special guest, GH Ramlia said a new village, Lekieram, has been born out of Peletkie- one of the oldest villages in Peren district, where an old British Dak Bungalow is located till date. 

He said with much deliberation, Peletkie village council had unanimously resolved to establish a new village in order to protect its ancestral land. Another reason behind the establishment of the village was to bring closer to the plain sector, he added. 

Ramlia also said that the village has been blessed with arable land for cultivation and rich natural resources, and therefore, urged the people to optimize the gifted land. 

Lamenting that the present Naga society has been filled with corruption and complications due to desire for easy way of life, he appealed to the villagers to leave aside such attitude and become a responsible citizens by rededicating towards work culture. 

He also appealed to the government departments under Peren district to assist the village in every possible ways. 

Ramlia also lauded the villagers for their hard work and said that their sacrifices will not go in vain. 

Lauding the people of Jalukie and Peletkie for maintaining good relations, he urged the two villages to continue to uphold the ancestral practice of genial relationship. 

Also, speaking at the inauguration programme as guest of honour, ADC Jalukie, Tinojongshi Chang urged the villagers to not overlook its parent village, Peletkie but work hand in hand in consultation with one another. He also sensitized the villagers on certain government norms and policies for future reference. 

Earlier, the special guest unveiled the inaugural monolith, and also planted tree saplings at the village along with the guest of honour. 

In the programme, the welcome address was delivered by chairman Lekieram village council, Teilubuing; village survey committee secretary, Teiriesong read out the rules and regulations of the village and vote of thanks was delivered by Namhinheing Disong.

 LMN chairman, Hiarwetlang Kenn; Jalukie Pumling chairman, Kumui Nring; and forest ranger Ahthibung range, Irai Hingleu also spoke at the programme. The programme was also attended by SDO civil Peren, EAC Jalukie, departmental officers, neighbouring village leaders, villagers and well wishers.
