Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya on Wednesday remarked that newspapers in Nagaland were doing a wonderful and better job than political parties and encouraged the media institutions to strengthen democracy.

Addressing the inaugural function of Nagaland Today tabloid newspaper in Dimapur at 2 ½ Miles, Acharya said people were hungry to know about Nagaland, and the media needed to pay a role in portraying the state’s colourful culture and traditions to the outside world.

Though newspapers have been trying to reach every part of the state, Acharya lamented that the poor road infrastructure had made it difficult to reach out to the people on time.

Pointing out that “even after 70 years of Statehood, we are yet to make ourselves what we are," Acharya encouraged both the print and electronic media to go out to the people and show the world that Nagaland was a peaceful state.

Speaking at the inauguration, publisher and general manager, Yudang Ao, said that Nagaland Today will be a daily newspaper which will listen to the perspective of the community, highlight views and opinions and empower communication. According to Yudang, Nagaland Today will be conducting a marketing campaign for around 10 days before hitting the stands.

Associate editor and online division head, Akangchila Longchar in her remark said, "Media in Nagaland has many challenges but the world needs our story and our story needs to be amplified."

Earlier, pastor Wapang Longchari invoked God's blessings. Editors and publishers of various media institutions, members from the media fraternity, government officials and well wishers attended the program.

Launched on December 3,1990. Nagaland Post is the first and highest circulated newspaper of Nagaland state. Nagaland Post is also the first newspaper in Nagaland to be published in multi-colour.
