NH-29 road sunken area could open in a week: commr & secy. PWD (W&H)

PWD (Works & Housing) Commissioner and secretary, Bendangkoka on Thursday informed that the a section of the NH-29 that sank below M/s Avilie fuel depot, at Lower Para Medical, Kohima could open in a week’s time for both light and heavy vehicles if the weather did not disturb the ongoing work. 
Speaking to the media persons at the road sunken site, commissioner and secretary said that with the cooperation of the landowner and contractor the road has been opened. However, he said at present vehicles including light vehicles cannot be allowed allow to ply due to mushy and soft soil.
Till the road is open for traffic, he said vehicles including heavy vehicles and oil tankers would continue to ply alternate road via Peducha and Chiesema. He informed that retaining wall would be constructed along the whole stretch of NH-29 where landslide occurred. He said the PWD (NH) would carry out works even at night if the weather permits.
On a query about the current road repair works being undertaken in the state, commissioner and secretary said the government was partially providing fund for road maintenance. However, he said that road repair works could not continue due to monsoon season, but filling up of potholes was still continuing.
