NH takes exception to Imna’s remark

DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (NPN) | Publish Date: 5/8/2019 11:48:14 AM IST

Drawing attention to the purported statement made by Nagaland BJP president and Minister Imna Along that “Nagas are Indians and Nagas are proud to be part of this great country”, the Naga Hoho (NH) Wednesday expressed the view that Imna’s statement “needs to be censured, if not, posterity would blame us.” Besides, NH said “we would be doing injustice to the thousands of Naga martyrs who have laid down their lives for the cause of sovereign Naga nation.”

NH through its communication cell said the statement was also disrespectful to the rest of the Naga nationalist who were still alive and striving with the best of their ability to “bring an honourable political solution to the “Indo-Naga” political issue.

“This very statement of Imna Along cannot be the voice of the entire Naga people and actually requires a very long and detail reply by narrating the whole Naga history,” NH said. However, the Hoho sought to compress the reply in a nutshell by quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s statement “Nagas have every right to be Independent”.

On recent standoff: NH said it has also taken serious note of the recent stand-off between Assam Rifles and the NSCN (I-M) at Sihai in Ukhrul district.

NH said it failed to understand why the Assam Rifles was provoking the situation of peaceful co-existence from time to time when people were yearning for peace. The hoho stated that chasing out the Nagas from their own homeland and burning down their camps would not bring peaceful solution. It stated that the ongoing peace process would collapse if such provocative attitudes continued by the Assam Rifles. The hoho has, therefore, urged upon both the Assam Rifles and the NNPGs to restrain from provoking each other “till the existence of Indo-Naga cease-fire.”
