NIA probing NSCN (I-M) funding

Following the arrest of a senior functionary of the NSCN(I-M) one ‘Col’ and also treasurer of the NSCN (I-M), Rayilung Nsrangbe on July 4 along with five others , the wife of Rayilung was also taken into custody on July 13 after she reportedly withdrew Rs.4 crore from her husband’s bank account.

According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle,  Rayilung’s wife was arrested by Nagaland Police on the direction of the NIA team currently monitoring the case.

On July 4, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police personnel had busted an “extortion module” of the NSCN (I-M) in Dimapur and arrested two NSCN (I-M) functionaries along with four other accomplices.

During the operation, the security forces also recovered Rs. 1.58 crore in cash and two packets of RDX along with arms and ammunitions from the residence Rayilung. The apprehended persons along with the seized items were handed over to Diphupar PS for further investigations.

Based on the confession of one pastor Rabi Pame, who was also arrested with Rs. 11 lakh cash, it was revealed that an IAS officer of Manipur was also involved in financial transaction in diverting funds from government projects (PMGSY, NREGA etc.) and other construction works going on in Manipur and Nagaland, the Deccan Chronicle report stated.

The report also disclosed that in a day or two, NIA would take over the custody of all the accused after completing the legal formalities of NIA court.
