NIT Nagaland holds its 3rd convocation
Graduates in various fields along with board of governors.

NIT Nagaland held its 3rd convocation for the class of 2018 and 2019 on November 23, at Chumukedima Town Council (CTC) hall. 

Altogether, 12 doctorates, 44 post graduates and 100 graduates qualified in the academic years (2017-18) and (2018-19) and were awarded Ph.D., M.Tech., M.Sc., B.S.M.S., and B. Tech degrees in attendance and in absentia.

The proceeding was chaired by the board of governors (BoG) chairperson Suparno Moitra. 

Prime minister’s message of felicitation to the graduates was read out by the director, NIT Nagaland Dr S Venugopal where he highlighted the annual achievements maintaining that NIT Nagaland currently offers six B. Tech, four M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD in Engineering, Basic Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences. 

At present there are 572 students and 151 scholars pursuing Ph.D., programmes in various disciplines. 

He noted that the institute faculty have published 68 papers in referred journals, presented 40 papers in various seminars and conferences, authored 2 chapters in books and filed 3 patents. 

Director noted that NIT Institute has bagged about 20 research projects and consultancy projects in the last academic year. Further, NIT Nagaland plans to establish Centre for Social and Economical upliftment of SCs and STs by empowering them through EEE-Education, entrepreneurship and economic development under the National SC-ST Hub Scheme of Ministry of Micro, Small, Medium and Enterprises, Government of India. 

NIT Nagaland is one of the centres of National Testing Agency in the state of Nagaland for conducting NEET, JEE, GATE and UGC-NET.

Retired professor from Gauhati University and fellow commonwealth council for educational administration and management prof. Nilima Bhagabati, as chief guest in her speech challenged the graduates to be lifelong learners and take pride in being an Indian – a land of diverse heritage, tradition and culture. Prof. Nilima also spoke on making a paradigm shift towards generating skills with sustainable goals. 

Padmashri and former member UPSC and NPSC Dr. Kilemsungla, as guest of honour felicitated the graduates and reminded that learning neither begins nor ends in class-room. 

The event was attended by senate members, BoG members, parents, well-wishers and the distinguished guest. Special traditional songs were performed by the students of NIT Nagaland.
