Nkwareu animal camp & piglet distribution

ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani-ERS in collaboration with College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren and North-eastern Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP), Jalukie organised a piglet distribution program at Nkwareu, New Jalukie, Peren district on August 28 under the NEH project entitled “Upliftment of socio-economic condition of tribal people through integrated livestock farming in North-Eastern Hill Region/Eastern part of India”.

In a press release, the department stated that ICAR-National Diary Research Institute (NDRI), ERS Kalyani head & principal invigilator of the project, Dr. T.K. Dutta was the chief guest of the program. 

The chief guest spoke on the project, its implementation and benefits the farmers would gain from this project towards creating sustainable livelihoods.

Dean C.V.Sc, CAU Jalukie, Dr. (Capt.) G. Dhananjaya Rao, presided over the program and spoke on the college and the livelihood project. Dr. Dutta was accompanied by a team of principal scientists; Dr. Ajoy Mandal, Dr. Anupam Chatterjee and Dr. M. Karunakaran. 50 piglets were distributed to 50 beneficiaries from four villages; Nkwareu, Samziuram, Jalukie ‘B’ and New Jalukie.

To commemorate CAU silver jubilee, an animal health-&-vaccination camp was also organized by College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren at the same venue. 

Associate professor and head, Veterinary Clinical Complex, Dr. Gunjan Das, coordinated the animal health camp and the overall program, while the piglet distribution program was coordinated by assistant professor, department of VPB, Dr. Uttarani Maibam, and assistant professor, department of AHE, Dr. Monosri Johari. 

88 farmers registered for the treatment of their livestock, birds and pet animals; 198 animals were treated in the camp; while 50 dogs were vaccinated against rabies.
