A week after Leader of Opposition, TR Zelaing, flayed the “negligence” behind scheduling the meeting of the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) on Naga Political Issue, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) deputy speaker Sharingain Longkumer Wednesday sought to clarify on the issue.

In a letter to the opposition leader, NLA deputy speaker said the last JLF meeting, which was to be convened on October 4, 2019, was postponed till further notice at the last minute on the suggestion of the Governor of Nagaland.
The deputy speaker stated that the governor had fixed a meeting with the legislators from the NPF) party on the same date. Thereafter, the deputy speaker said two dates (October 7 or October 9) were proposed to Leader of Opposition office for the JLF meeting, which was confirmed in the negative since NPF Legislators were due to participate in the reorganisation of the NPF party in Arunachal Pradesh.
Subsequently, the deputy speaker said “we were informed that the chief minister and some of the cabinet ministers had to be away in Delhi for official work.”
In this connection, the deputy speaker clarified that NLA has not received any official intimation from the office of the Chief Minister, on the desire to represent the JLF/PWC on the Naga Political issue before Central Government.
The deputy speaker affirmed that as far as the office of the Speaker/Deputy Speaker was concerned, the resolution passed by the JLF on August 7, 2019 stands reiterated.
