No bird flu case but ASF is spreading in Mnp: Vet Minister

There was no bird flu in Manipur as of now, said Manipur veterinary and animal husbandry minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh on Wednesday but informed that the contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) is spreading in the state. He said that the state veterinary department has set up Rapid Response Teams (RRT) in all the districts in collaboration with deputy commissioners, district superintendents of police and district veterinary officers of the border districts. On the the spread of the contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs in the state, the minister said that spread of the disease was reported in Salungpham area in Thoubal district and Nongmaiching Chingkhong(Wakha) area in Imphal East district. 

Ban on sale of pig, pork, feed and related items in these “controlled area” and “infected zones” apart from restricting the movement of pig from the place where it was kept within the above area and zone was also imposed, Lukhoi added. The minister appealed to the people of the state not to panic as the government is actively taking up all preventive measures through the state veterinary department.
