Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy Saturday said that separatist movements in India have failed because it did not have the support of the majority.

“Not single one succeeded. Why it did not succeed is because that they did not get support from the majority who wanted to live together,” Roy said addressing the Central Puja Committee’s, Get-Together of Harmony held here.

He said that different ethnic groups and religions living together is very endearing experience as he reminded the gathering that he, his wife and children were products of Roman Catholic Schools. The Governor also said that he learnt the “Lord’s Prayer” even before he had learnt the Hindu mantras and saw nothing different in it.

Veteran Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya Assembly,  Mukul Sangma, said that peace and harmony will enable the people of the state to realise their true potentials and take it forward. All people aspire to have peace, happiness and well-being, said Sangma while urging that all must come together to ensure the future generation’s interests. “We are committed to see Meghalaya demonstrate to the world that we can come together to ensure peace, happiness and well-being,” he said.

Earlier, Governor led the gathering in prayer. The Get-Together of Harmony was also attended by heads of different religious faiths.
