Northern Angami Colony was formally inaugurated on Thursday by advisor of Excise, Sericulture and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio. 

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, Zhaleo called for the residents to be united and broad-minded in their aspirations and challenged members to take the colony to higher level in recognition of the efforts rendered by the founding fathers. 

He urged every resident to be socially responsible, be it for the uplift of the colony or Dimapur or Nagaland as a whole. Asserting that irresponsible failures on one’s part in the society could become seeds of dissension, he therefore requested everyone to be sensible towards the interest of the society. 

He also opined colony councils and chairmen to think about setting up of market ward wise so that there was no need for people to venture to populated market areas frequently. 

On COVID-19 pandemic, he stated that Nagas have the tendency to stigmatise unnecessarily thereby creating confusion without knowing facts. He attested that SOPs laid down by the central and state government was not to punish but to keep people safe. 

In the ribbon cutting ceremony of the monolith, Rio beseeched blessings and expressed profound gratitude to the founders of the colony over 50 years ago. 

President, NAPO, Zenei Tuo, in his speech encouraged the gathering to maintain unity amongst the colony members, be it Angami or non Angami, and further urged to do humanitarian works so as to be an example for other colonies. He stressed on familiarising on the word “we” and not “me”. 

Earlier, programme was chaired by Ruopfukhrielie, invocation by pastor, NACC, Vilasetuo and welcome address by NAC chairman Kevise Sogotsu. A special number was presented by Welto Kiho and short speech delivered by president, Northern Angami Kuda Union, Dimapur, Luolao Üsou. Vote of thanks was delivered by GB, NAC, Seyiekielie Chadi.
