Nothing wrong CM asking for donations: NPCC

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has supported chief minister Neiphiu Rio’s appeal for donation to the CMRF to fight the COVID-19 pandemic

In a statement, NPCC president K. Therie said there was nothing wrong with Rio seeking donation. “We must fight together. It is not a personal fight. It is for protection of all,” said Therie, while also expressing happiness that civil societies and individuals have come forward to join this endeavour.

Therie further appealed to ministers, MLAs and MPs to donate one year’s LADF and also urged “bureaucrats, heads of departments, contractors, officers, businessmen and tax collectors or whoever have benefited from the government and public during the last seventeen years, to come forward in this time of need.”

Therie opined that the CM’s appeal for donation, was meant to all who have benefited under his government. “The budget belongs to them as it no longer percolates down to the districts and divisions,” he stated.

“For the rest of us, we will contribute and donate whatever is possible to stranded subjects and fight back COVID-19 socially,” he said.

Expressing concern for safety of the family members of healthcare workers, Therie said that in other states, accommodation were being arranged for medical teams. He said health workers must first be well protected at all costs with the latest equipment, then only with their courage and confidence, others can be protected.

Asserting that one cannot be over confident with the latest PPE alone, Therie said testing kits should be used for every patient in question.

Therie said he was relieved to learn that the first and second consignments of supplies had already reached. He further said that money should not be the obstacle to protect the people from the current pandemic.
