NPCC wants LS polls to be declared ‘null and void’

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Sunday informed that the party has among several resolutions, decided to move All India Congress Committee (AICC) to take cognizance of alleged EVM manipulation, during the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, and move the Court to declare the recent election null and void and also demand re-election with paper ballot.

In a joint statement, NPCC president K Therie and general secretary Capt. GK Zhimomi said the decision to this effect was made at the general session of NPCC held on June 7, 2019 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.
NPCC said that the verdict of 2019 Lok Sabha elections was beyond the assessment and perception and it was therefore unacceptable. “If not for EVM manipulation and religious polarization, there is no reason why the assessments of various international and national political analysts should go wrong,” NPCC stated. For fear of EVM manipulations, NPCC reminded that 21 political parties had demanded paper ballot but ECI refuted without any acceptable reason.
Further, when the political parties demanded 50% verification of VVPAT slips during counting process, ECI flatly rejected rendering use of VVPAT meaningless.
NPCC pointed out that the huge victory margin of someone like BJPs Pragya Singh Thakur, currently under trial as terror accused and Godse patroniser, goes to prove that it was hatred against secularism, religious polarisation and EVM manipulation. NPCC said it was also shocked that Congress ruled states in Hindi speaking belt would be wiped out without the above stated reasons.
Taking note of these issues, NPCC said it has lost faith in the election process of Indian democracy.
Meanwhile, NPCC while appreciating the decision of Congress president Rahul Gandhi for owning moral responsibility, however, said it was difficult to believe it as people’s mandate, alleging that the verdict was “fraudulent based on EVM manipulation and religious polarisation regulated by a biased ECI in total violation of the Election MCC.”
The party therefore resolved to support the resolution of the Central Working Committee (CWC) in rejecting Rahul’s resignation.
The party also expressed apprehension that the BJP-led NDA government has moved the nation to a dangerous position especially for religious minorities and oppressed castes. “The feeling of divide is growing in the minds of the people for want of safety and security (surrender and be protected or will lynch you, is the signal all over),” NPCC added.
In the given situation, NPCC said that party unanimously decided to make its position clear that any attempt to infringe upon the secular and socialist structure of the Indian Constitution shall not be tolerated and that the party will always uphold the political rights, belief, social practices, language and rich culture of the Nagas as long as it remains a part of the Indian Union.
