NPF’s purpose is to see Naga issue resolved: Dr. Shürho

Naga People Front (NPF) president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has Liezietsu reminded the party members that NPF was handed over by the elders with a purpose and that purpose remained an obligation to the party at all times.

Addressing the central executive council (CEC) meeting held at party headquarters here Wednesday, he said the purpose was to see that the “Indo-Naga” problem was resolved amicably, adding that NPF party has been playing the role continuously towards achieving that goal. He said “without hesitation that we are sincere in our commitment but we are not the main players in the field”.

As of now, he said the main players in the field were Government of India on the one hand and NSCN (I-M) and seven NNPGs on the other hand. He said NPF was only playing the role of facilitator and at times the mediator’s role “when we were in that position to do”.

He recalled that in 1997, when the cease-fire agreement was signed between the Government of India and NSCN (I-M), NPF highly welcomed the agreement during its state council meeting in 1998 at Dimapur Club building and declared that “in the event of any settlement arrived at between the concerned parties, the ‘Cock’ party would not stand on the way but give way to the new arrangement to come and stay any day, any time”.

More than 20 years had elapsed since then, he said and affirmed that even then the party would not change the stand but continue to press for an early honourable settlement to the protracted Naga political problem.

Reiterating that opposition life was not very pleasant, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, however, said that it was also time when one has to prove one’s leadership and integrity to boast of in future or regret for what they were today.

Informing that the tenure of the present office bearers of the party would get over by end of 2019, NPF president said the party was contemplating holding its general convention during the later part of November where the party would have new team of office bearers for the Central, for all frontal organization for the Divisions and down to area and village level for the tenure 2020-2024.

Towards this, he said search committees for various divisions, area units and village units including Manipur State Unit and Arunachal State Unit have been notified. He informed the leaders in the area to see first that all weathered leaders should be given preference for the sake of stability.

Liezietsu exuded confidence that it was the best time to get stable persons to be on the seat “because all political tourists and political holiday makers are away from the party at this particular moment.”

Leader of the NPF legislature party, TR Zelaing, Minister L. Dikho from Manipur, NPF working president Dr. Huska Yepthomi and Dr. Chumben Murry, MLA, chaired the programme, also spoke at the meeting.
