NPF to field Dr. Imtiwapang for Speaker’ post

KOHIMA, FEB 3 (NPN) | Publish Date: 2/3/2020 12:13:50 PM IST

NPF has decided to field former NLA speaker, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier as the party’s candidate for the election to the Speaker’s post scheduled to be held on February 7. This was disclosed by a senior member and NPF legislator.

NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon informed that the decision to contest the speaker’s election was made during February 1 consultative meeting. He however said that the house left it to the discretion of the MLAs to choose the candidate. He said party whip had been issued to all MLAs, including the seven suspended, hoping that the members would abide by it.

On the disqualification petition against the suspended MLAs, Kikon said the party was justified to go to high court seeking directive to the speaker to dispose the case. He however said that the matter would be taken up after the ensuing Assembly session got over.

Meanwhile, former Home minister Thenucho Tunyi was appointed as working president of NPF. He was administered the oath of allegiance by senior VP (adm) Kruzakie Kelio in the presence party functionaries. (Correspondent)
