NPFCYW slams NDPP statement

Naga People’s Front, Central Youth Wing (NPFCYW) has issued a statement saying it was constrained to do so for clarity against the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) accusatory rhetoric.

In a press note through its press & media cell, CYW said every time NPF raises an issue of importance, NDPP without losing a moment takes up the education qualification of TR Zeliang. This, NPF said, clearly revealed that the NDPP lacked courage and willpower to face matters of public importance except for personal attacks.

Stating that there was no logic behind their cheap drama, NPF said a responsible opposition party in the interest of the mainstream, will continue to raise substantial issues that require the attention of the government.

NPF said the unceasing effort of the NDPP to bring the issue back into public domain was shrouded with clear signs of defeat, despair and depression, “despite miserable defeats in every court of law, right from the district court to the High Court and then to the Supreme Court.”

NPF further wondered and asked “what was there to come clean on, when the court of law in the country has dismissed and cleared the qualification matter of Zeliang?”

NPF said it felt pity on NDPP for lacking the argument skills and being confined only to its personalized attacks on TR Zeliang, despite the state being gripped with glaring problems.

While the affairs of the state are the subject of discussion, such personal matter being brought into the public domain again and again is a dull and tasteless act, it added.

NPF reminded NDPP of the fake BA honours certificate allegedly obtained by Neiphiu Rio from Kohima College on a non-working Saturday.

Alleging that the college was made to work on a holiday, NPF said it was a clear case of fraud under IPC 420. Besides explaining in detail about how the certificate was obtained etc., NPF also accused Rio of filing a false affidavit, enclosed with the fake certificate while filing nomination papers for the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

NPF said Rio’s personal secretary and the vice principal of Kohima College went out of their way to take the trouble and at the end were disgraced publicly to save the face of Rio.

“His sordid tales are many but the party do not intend to dwell on personalized attacks unless compelled to do so,” the NPF stated.

NPF accused Rio of making one excuse after another to save his skin. However, NPF said the question that still begs for an answer was: why did Rio file an affidavit of BA Honours in his nomination paper?

NPF said it was open for open debate with the NDPP on the issue of qualification of both the leaders for clarity, if NDPP desired to know what crime was committed by whom.

In the case of TR Zeliang, NPF claimed that the latter had never submitted a false certificate in any of the nomination for the past more than 30 years of various elections nor had he submitted any false certificate to any other office.

On the other hand, NPF said Rio had filed his nomination with qualification as BA during past state-elections, but suddenly became a graduate with honours in 2014, record of which was available in the office of the Chief Election Officer.

The party asked NDPP as to why it was avoiding answering a pertinent question like why Nagaland government did not receive “MGNREG Fund”, when all other states had received the said Fund against the current Financial year.

It accused the NDPP led PDA government of wanting to make money out of the funds already brought by the previous DAN government, saying NDPP should be ashamed of what they write and about what their chief minister was doing.

NPF also alleged that the government was not concerned about the people, except to increase the liabilities of the state as was evident by the huge deficit of the past 11 years rule of Rio even after the fiscal deficit of the state was waived.

While the state’s deficit increased, NPF alleged that most of Rio’s coteries became millionaires out of corrupt practices and were involved in money-lending business.

NPF has asked NDPP to go for issue-based politics and not remain forever mired with individual-politics.
