NPP central leaders visit Dimapur

DIMAPUR, OCT. 18 (NPN):  Leaders of National People’s Party (NPP) headed by national general secretary (Finance), NPP, James Sangma, along with other officials visited Dimapur to meet state’s NPP leaders and also to take stock of the organization, political atmosphere and way forward for NPP in the state on Friday.

Addressing the media at state NPP’s office, Dimapur, Walford colony, NPP national general secretary (Finance), James Sangma, clarified that the visit was strictly for the party meeting. Sangma, who is also the Home Minister of Meghalaya state, said he was not visiting Nagaland in the capacity of home minister and that he would not be meeting any state government officials during this visit.

Sangma further informed that the intend of the visit was to meet other NPP leaders and members while also taking stock of the organisation, political atmosphere and pave a way forward for the party

When asked about NPP’s way forward in the state, he said that it was a motive of keeping everyone in the loop and taking every suggestion, especially of its party member, and looking for ways and means to expand the base of the party, not just in the state but the entire NE and the country. 

When asked about the stand of NPP in the state after the merger of two NPP MLAs to NDPP, Sangma reiterated that politics was always a situation where things are always in a fluid state and keeps changing and never static. He stated that the party had its ups and downs; however that did not deter them as a party. 

Further, despite NPP being a young party, he claimed that the party had been able to achieve its goals, the status of one amongst the eight National parties in the country, through the love and support of the NE people. 

He also maintained that such merging and changes occurs in politics, but does not deter nor discourage the party, in its motive and agenda to serve its people. 

Sangma further enlightened that NPP’s primary goal and focus was specially to serve people of North Eastern region of India and tribal’s of the country.   

When asked regarding inclination of NPP, either towards BJP or Congress, Sangma clarified that NPP had its own political ideology and that it was an independent party, having its own leaders. He also maintained that NPP had its own individual identity and affirmed it was a party of its own. 

Sangma later stated that NPP was formed to provide platform for people of North East, as it felt that it still lacked strong voice in the parliament. He also viewed that NE people needed the platform that was being provided NPP. 

National general secretary (Political affairs), NPP, Mutchu Mithi, disclosed that the purpose of its visit to the state was because Nagaland, being a formidable state, party’s ideology of ‘one voice, one northeast’ could be taken forward with the same vision, and also to merge ahead together collectively for its vision.

State president, NPP, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema also stated that NPP is the only national party from the whole of North East that is recognised as a national party and asserted that if NPP can come together as one dynamic party; the voices of the NE people will be heard at the centre.
