NSCN/GPRN Ao national workers react to Imna’s statement

By Nagaland Post | Publish Date: 5/9/2019 12:09:35 PM IST

We, the Ao national workers of NSCN/GPRN are abashed at the statement made by Minister and Nagaland BJP President, Mr. Imna Along that ‘Nagas are Indians and Nagas are proud to be a part of this great country’. For daring to make such outrageous and dishonorable statement, we have to exercise our duty to deplore such a despicable statement. This is disservice to the Naga people and a ‘sellout’ of Naga’s historical and political identity.

Mr. Along, who is holding such a responsible position as a representative of his constituency in Mokokchung district and given such a high status in the Nagaland Cabinet, has made a mockery of the Naga’s political struggle which has travelled this far under the leadership of NSCN holding the ground firm to defend God given identity as a sovereign nation. The Government of India also have taken cognizance of the unique history and situation of the Nagas that eventually led to the signing of the historic August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement. This agreement recognized the sovereign right of the Naga people.

Was Mr. Along not aware of the stand taken by all the political parties in Nagaland through their manifesto to stand for Naga political solution that is honorable and acceptable?  What is he trying to show with his misleading statement? But for us - Ao national workers, Mr. Along’s statement is obnoxious as it brings shame to us in particular and to all the Nagas in general.

Mr. Along cannot play damn with the Naga political history that has brought us this far. How can he forget the inhuman treatment the Nagas went through at the hands of the Indian Army? Human groupings, killings, tortures, rapes and arson etc are all what the Nagas met at the hands of the Indian Army. We cannot tolerate such a person who wants to forget all this just because he wants to please his political master at the cost of Nagas who have given blood to defend their sovereign right.

For the Nagas, the political struggle for the past 70 years has been a trail of blood, tears and sweat and our mighty God never forsake us. Thousands of Nagas have sacrificed their lives defending the Naga’s sovereign nation under the banner of Nagalim for Christ. The God given rainbow flag is our identity as a nation. It is a Covenant between God and Nagas. And we shall uphold it at all costs.

Disparaging as it is, Mr. Along has undermined his own identity as a Naga just to please his political master in New Delhi. But, it will be nothing less than damnation for Mr. Along if he prefers to treat the lotus flag of BJP to be placed above the rainbow flag of the Nagas. He cannot feign ignorance of the ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiation to take such liberty to make a statement which is not in tune with the Naga aspiration. He should be aware that in this final stage of negotiation only a few issues like Naga flag and Constitution remains to be agreed upon. But, this is sensitive as it matters our identity. Therefore, any nonsensical statement made at this crucial stage is to be condemned out rightly. However, Mr. Along is given the privilege to clarify his stand to the satisfaction of the Nagas who value their national identity as Nagas. He must clarify under what context he made the statement.
