National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) congratulates Dr. Michael Van Walt Van Praag on being awarded Knighthood by the Dutch (Netherlands) Government in recognition of his life-long dedication and commendable services in support of the unrepresented and oppressed nations and peoples around the world. Given his long period of attachment in the service of humanity particularly his tireless works to resolve diverse conflicts that exists around the world, he truly deserved this prestigious Royal Distinction of Commander in the Order of Orange-Nassau, one of the highest civilian distinctions given by the Dutch Government.  For the NSCN in particular and for the Nagas in general, Dr. Michael is a person of immense significance.

It was he in the capacity of UNPO’s General Secretary, who found historical and political legitimacy in the Naga struggle and thereby, helped NSCN get a foothold in international arena by admitting NSCN as a bona fide member of UNPO (Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization) on 23 January, 1993. The rest is history.

NSCN is also grateful to the Dutch Government for taking cognizance of Dr. Michael’s contribution towards helping the unrepresented nations and oppressed peoples magnify their issues in the eyes of the world. This is reflective of the Dutch Government’s social and liberal tolerance.

NSCN still remains indebted to the Dutch Government when the historic declaration was made by the Government of India in the city of Amsterdam on 11th July, 2002, during the meeting between Government of India’s representative and NSCN leaders giving recognition to the unique history and situation of the Nagas.
