The 20th Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Martyr’s Memorial Trophy 2019, organised by Angami Students Union (ASU), will begin from September 21 to October 19 at Khuochiezie, Kohima.

Addressing a press conference at Angami Students’ Union office, ASU president Vizokho Zashümo said the champions will receive a cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000 with trophy and citations while the runners-up will get Rs. 1,20,000 with trophy and citations. 

The semi-finalists will get Rs.30,000 each and quarter-finalists will receive Rs. 15,000 each. 

The individual awards includes player of the tournament, best custodian, best defender, best midfielder, highest scorer will receive Rs 10,000 each along with the citations, while the player of the tournament will get a two-wheeler along with citations.

This year, the tournament will ban single-use-plastic inside the ground. In this regard, the union has requested the football fans to bring their own water bottle.

The union in collaboration with the forest department will also introduce tree saplings instead of mementos to the guests during the month long tournament.

The month long tournament is organised in respect and honour of the two martyrs’ Late Kekuojalie Sachii of Kohima village and Late Vikhozo Yhoshii of Kigwema village who were the victims in the indiscriminate firing of the Nagaland Armed Police at Alichen on 20th March, 1986 during a peaceful rally called by the Naga Students’ Federation to protest against the State Government’s decision on the Extension of Disturbed Area Belt from 5 KM – 20 KM along the Indo-Myanmar border and against the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre into the state of Nagaland.

Western Angami Students Union will be incharge of the ground management this year. The union is also expecting teams from Manipur to participate in this tournament. The organisers also have pitched in AIFF license referees to conduct the matches for the tournament.

Interested teams or clubs have been informed to collect entry forms from Sports Paradise, Kezieke Kohima, ASU Office Headquarter below AIR station, NSF office, Oking Naga Club building and Chumukedima Town Youth Organisation office, Chumukedima. The last date for submission of entry form will be September 17.
