NSF Martyrs’ Trophy: KVSU beat KSU 2-1

KVSU Kohima village came from behind to beat Kigwema Students’ Union 2-1 at the ongoing 20th NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy 2019 being held at Khouchiezie, Kohima local ground on Thursday.

The month long football tournament is being organised in honour of the two martyrs’, late Kekuojalie Sachii of Kohima village and late Vikhozo Yhoshii of Kigwema village and organised by Angami Students’ Union (ASU) under the theme “Goal for Peace”.

KVSU Kohima village captain Mezhüsietuo scored a stunning long range kick in the second half to help the team register a hard fought victory over KSU.  It was Kigwema Students’ Union Shürhotolie who opened the account in favour of Kigwema in the 51st minute.

However, Ruovizhalie brought back the game to KVSU after scoring the equaliser from close range in the 55th minute. Four minutes later, KVSU captain scored a stunning long range kick to put the team into the driver’s seat. KSU did fought back but some solid defending from KVSU defenders helped the team hold on to the lead till the final whistle. 

With the victory, the KVSU Kohima village will take on Phesama Youth Organisation on October 8 in the pre-quarterfinal round. 

Meanwhile, Tyrants FC Khuzama blanked High School Taxi Drivers XI 3-0 in the second round match to enter the round 16. 

The first half saw a goalless draw but rejuvenated side Tyrants FC went on to score three goals in the second half.

Sedevizo scored twice in the 54th minute and 73th minute for the team, while Kethozo added the third goal in the 77th minute to finish the game in favour of Tyrants FC.

Up next, Tyrants FC will play against MVYO Meriema on October 7 in the pre-quarterfinal round.
