In an effort to make public places healthier, DC Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, said that all government offices under Dimapur district will be made smoking free zones.

According to DIPR, addressing a District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) & Review Meeting of the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) for the 4th quarter 2018- 19 at the DC’s Conference Hall in Dimapur on March 27, Kevin said that a notice would be issued to all offices under Dimapur District to this effect, while also designating a place for smoking.

He also suggested that the committee members buy slots in Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), local cable TV, and radio show broadcasts, to educate citizens on the harmful effects of tobacco. Kevekha further opined that anti-tobacco campaign messages could be shown in cinema halls during movie intervals to further spread the message.

Kevin also advocated for continuing and re-enforcing poster and IEC campaigns on a larger scale.

CMO Dimapur, Vikato suggested that implementation could be improved, and he expressed the opinion that that nursing home doctors, dental associations, food safety wing and religious forums, along with officers of the NTCP cell Dimapur, need to deliberate on taking this campaign further.

Six new schools -- Grace Academy, Eklavya Model Residential School, Riverbelt School, St. Joseph School Niuland, GHSS Medziphema, and Gilgal School – joined the Tobacco School Club which is a part of the NTCP. Kevekha gave away Tobacco-Free School certificates to representatives of these schools.

Psychologist, DTCC, Imkumla Aier gave a presentation about the activities of NTCP Dimapur, conducted in the year 2018- 19.
