Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO)   Saturday expressed  support to the Public Action Committee (PAC)’s demand for enacting an anti-crime act to control rampant organised crime  in Nagaland, which it said was ‘the need of the hour’.

NVCO through its press & media cell reminded that in 2014, it   urged upon the legislators to enact  stringent laws such as Maharashtra Crime Control Act & U.P. Goondas Act to combat extortion in the state.

In the press release, NVCO mentioned about the concerns expressed by the Governor over rampant tax collections by various armed groups that has led to upward spiral of prices of every item in the market.

NVCO also drew attention on the press briefing of the state police to highlight its achievements during the past five years. NVCO questioned as to why was nothing mentioned about illegal taxation at the check-gates and on highways by organizations, government agencies including police and several other groups?.

NVCO also mentioned about the representation to DC Kohima by the Kohima District Truck Owners’Union(KDTODU) on October 9,2019 over rampant collections by various government departments and scores of organizations from Khuzama check gate to Lalmati area. NVCO also pointed out that KDTODU had enclosed the government order issued on June 22,2009 banning any form of gate collections.

NVCO said that the state police highlighted its achievements just after Nagaland Governor had shot a letter to the chief minister expressing concern over collapse of law and order in the state.
