NYK Dimapur conducts suicide prevention training

Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Dimapur, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, India in collaboration with Serendip Guardians, Dimapur, as part of observation of  “World Suicide Prevention Day” organised one-day programme on gate keeper’s training on suicide prevention on September 10. 

A press release from NYK Dimapur stated that, resource persons were Rini Ghosh, director, Serendip Guardian, Bokotali Sumi, counselling phycologist and Rugozevou Khate, psychiatric social worker. Detailed theoretical sessions along with interactive workshop was conducted by resource persons. The speakers highlighted about how a potential number of people who are trained in “gatekeeper training,” possibility could reduce a catastrophic outcome. Delegates were also trained and taught on how to recognise someone who may be suicidal and intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

Earlier K. Phyobemo Lotha, UNV-district youth coordinator, NYK Dimapur, in his introductory address stated that prevention started from every individual and keeping oneself fit  by engaging in physical and mental fitness activities will enhance healthy state of mind. The training programme were attended by NYKS and NSS volunteers, youth workers and leaders.
