To protest against the murder of a 19-year old woman, Paugumcule, whose body was found in the jungles of Gaili village under Peren district on August 1, 2019, the Northern Zeme Women Organisation (NZWO) Monday organised a mass rally demanding justice for the victim.

In a press release, NZWO president, Idaibuile and secretary, Paibamkole stated that around 600 women from seven Nothern Zeme villages participated in the rally. The rally, which began at 7am from Punglwa ‘B’ junction, proceeded towards Heningkunglwa police outpost, a stretch of around 6km.

The womenfolk holding banners and placards demanded investigation agency to immediately the perpetrator to book and deliver justice to the deceased.

They also shouted slogans demanding the authority to award befitting punishment to the culprit.

While appealing for peaceful environment, the rallyists demanded that atrocities against women be stopped.

NZWO also submitted a 15-day ultimatum on the district administration to the arrest of the culprit.

The memorandum addressed to the deputy commissioner (DC) Peren was read out by NZWO advisor, Iliacangle. On the way to Heningkunglwa police outpost, the rallyists submitted memorandum to the EAC, Ngwalwa circle, who received the memorandum on behalf of DC Peren. EAC Ngwalwa assured to offer full cooperation to book the culprit at the earliest and deliver justice.

Other organisations that participated in the mass rally included all Northern Zeme villages, Zelianrong Mipui Organisation (ZMO), Zeliangriong Baudi (ZB), Zeme Council Nagaland (ZCN), Northern Zeme Council (NZC) and Northern Zeme Youth Organisation.
