On accusations against Rajiv Gandhi

By Nagaland Post | Publish Date: 5/10/2019 12:47:31 PM IST

This statement is issued by me to clear the lies being spread by the BJP about the involvement of Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, in the massacre of Sikhs in 1984. The day Indira Gandhi was assassinated, (31st October 1984) I was in Delhi with Dr. S.C. Jamir, the then Chief Minister of Nagaland. I was Press Secretary to Chief Minister, Nagaland.

The day Indira Gandhi was assassinated, the Chief Minister and I were to meet Indira Gandhi at 4 PM. That day Gandhi was giving an interview to some foreign journalists and all the appointments with the Prime Minister was cancelled except the appointment of Nagaland Chief Minister.
Because of this, the Enquiry Commission of Indira Gandhi assassination, summoned me to appear before the Commission to be questioned. I was questioned by two officers of the Commission in Nagaland House Delhi. They questioned me, why our appointment was not cancelled and who had requested for the appointment.
That evening Rajiv Gandhi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India. Dr. S.C. Jamir and I went to the Prime Minister’s residence in the evening. After we reached the residence, Rajiv Gandhi came to the residence from Rashtrapathi Bhavan.
Along with us Vasantdada Patil, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, JB Patnaik, Chief Minister of Orissa, K Karunakaran, Chief Minister of Kerala, GK Moopnar, General Secretary, AICC and Amitab Bachan were present at PM’s residence. Rajiv Gandhi came and met all of us. He was very sad and emotional.
Immediately after his arrival, he was talking to the Chief Ministers and instructing them to go back to their respective States that night itself and ensure that no Sikh persons should be harmed in their States. He was even telling them to avail Air Force Aircrafts, in case they cannot get a regular flight. That was his concern for the people.
Unlike many of today’s politicians, he was a decent and kindhearted Gentle man. I was really pained to hear the accusation made by BJP against such kind of an innocent soul. Since I was a witness to his actions on that night, when his mother’s dead body was still lying in AIMS, I thought I must tell the Nation the truth.
Very few sons will have that kind of courage to be concerned about the people, who killed his own mother. That kind of blood is running in the body of Rahulji and Priyankaji and that is why they still love the people who are spreading wild accusations against them day and night.
