One person sustained bullet injuries when an unknown person opened fire in the suburb area of Shillong city in Meghalaya late Sunday night, police said on Monday.

Police said the incident occurred at around 11:40 pm at Lapalang bridge under Rynjah police station after a scuffle broke out between some locality youths and the miscreants.

Pynskhembor Kharmawlong (24) of Nongrah Lummarboh, received two bullet injuries and was rushed to North East Indira Gandhi Regonal Institute of Medical Sciences.  He is stated to be out of danger.

Kharmawlong had reportedly told the police that he came out of his house after receiving a telephone call from his friends about the scuffle at the locality, police said. Quoting the victim, police said that an unknown person came out of the vehicle and fired upon him. Police recovered an empty cartridge of 9mm pistol from the site. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and police have started to interrogate Kharwmawlong’s friends, even as a manhunt is on to trace the shooter.
