Online training and interactive session on floriculture technology

Online training programme and interactive session was jointly organised by district administration, Dimapur and Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema in association with Dimapur District Floriculture Association of Dimapur (DDFA) on July 25. 

A press release by CIH Medziphema stated that, DC Dimapur Anoop Khinchi, Dr B. N. S. Murthy, horticulture commissioner (GoI) and Dr D. J. Rajkhowa, joint director (ICAR Centre) were present at the online interactive session. 

DC Dimapur in his inaugural speech, emphasized on promoting the flower growers in Nagaland with respect to technology and production in protected and open condition with effective market linkages also. He appreciated the efforts of CIH to promote floriculture in Nagaland and also assured flower growers for possible support.

Dr B.N.S. Murthy highlighted the problems faced by the flower growers in present condition and emphasized the need for introduction of technology for drying of flowers. He has extended all possible support from his side for technology demonstrations of potential flowers in production and post- harvest management.

Bharat Bhojane, consultant, Rise & Shine Biotech Pvt. Ltd., Pune, was resource person for imparting training on production technology of orchids and gerbera with special reference to North East condition. He elaborated the problems and solutions for growing the flowers under protected condition and answered the queries of participants. Arvind Singh, technical consultant (CIH) focussed on the potential crops for open condition in Nagaland with reference to sub-tropical and temperate condition. He also shared the experience of growing flowers in CIH with participants in production of flowers.

President DDFA, Abeny Ezung appreciated the content of training programme and thanked CIH and district administration for organizing training for their members. Around 60 members and other participants attended the programme and interacted with resource person. Earlier, deputy commissioner (Horticulture, GOI) & Director, CIH Dr Naveen Patle gave welcome address, while Dr. Moasosang Longkumer (assistant horticulture specialist) extended vote of thanks. Watila Longkumer coordinated with participants and CIH for organizing the programme.
