Only AHoDs,HoDs to interact with media

Nagaland chief secretary Temjen Toy in an advisory on April 15 has informed that no government official, except authorized personnel, will be allowed to speak, interview and issue statement on behalf of the department to the media. 

The advisory has been issued in view various reports in the media that has created “confusion in the minds of the people”, a DIPR report stated.
In this regard, Toy has asked all AHoDs and HoDs to take note that no officer other than the concerned AHoD/HoD are authorized to speak to the media on issues pertaining to functioning matters of the respective departments. He warned that any unauthorized official found making statements to any media or press will face disciplinary action.
Warns against leaking confidential data: Nagaland government, under the Nagaland Epidemic Disease (COVID- 19) Regulations, 2020, has warned that it is a punishable offence to reveal the identity of COVID-19 affected person(s). Taking serious note of various confidential data related to COVID-19 being leaked to social media by unscrupulous persons, the government warned of strict action against those involved in doing so.
Strict action against rumour mongers: In the wake of fake news and wrong information being circulated on social media causing panic amongst the public, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Anoop Khinchi has issued an order, under Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act 2005, IT Act 2008 and Section 188 of the IPC, to penalize any individual creating/spreading false information through any means.
Meanwhile, when contacted government sources pointed out that many individuals have resorted to spreading wrong, mischievous and misleading information on social media, particularly WhatsApp and Facebook, creating confusion and also tarnishing the image of individuals publicly, causing mental trauma. The government will take strict action against such individuals, it added.
